Abstract

As per the requirements of the customer, the chemical composition and mechanical properties of reinforcement steel bars (8, 12, 20 and 25 mm dia bars) were analyzed and verified for its conformance to Fe 500 HCRM grade of IS 1786:2008 specification. Besides, the corrosion behaviour of reinforcement steel bars (8, 12, 20 and 25 mm dia bars) were evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization tests as per ASTM G5-94, by neutral salt spray test as per ASTM B117-90 and by moist SO2 test as per ASTM G 87-02. The project work enabled verification of the quality of reinforcement steel bars in terms of its chemical composition, mechanical property requirements and corrosion resistance for its suitability for construction of gas carrying pipelines.
