Abstract

Micro alloy vanadium steel is high strength low alloy steel, possessing precipitation strengthening carbonitrides, nitride & carbides during subsequent austenite to ferrite transformation. The carbides, nitrides of Vanadium has cubic body centred structure which exhibit certain cohesion with the cubic Steel matrix. The solubility of vanadium carbide & nitride is much higher due to cohesive forces between the carbides structure & steel matrix. Precipitation in ferrite results in strengthening effect. The vanadium dissolved in steel is account for the 50% of the total vanadium content. Although by increasing the amount of nitrogen the dissolved vanadium can be extracted from the solid solution in the form precipitate of carbides & nitrides. And That makes vanadium an eminent choice for strong and easily controllable precipitation strengthening element. The difference in the solubility of carbides, nitrides leads to conclusion that vanadium becomes an essential Microalloy element in micro alloy vanadium steel; because it largely determine the density of V(C,N) precipitation and thereby the degree of precipitation strengthening. Say about nitrogen Thus precise addition of N, controls the V(C,N) precipitation and strengthening and driving force for precipitation.
