Abstract

Ferroalloys are essential raw materials for steel making. The quality of steel and also economics of steel production are greatly influenced by the quality of ferroalloys. Therefore quality specification of ferro-alloys and their judicious use are of paramount import-ance to the management of any steel plant which is a bulk consumer of the ferroalloys. Details of quality specificat-ions of various ferroalloys in use at present at Rourkela Steel Plant and their technical justifications have been described in this paper. Impact of ferroalloy quality on the quality of steel and different control measures exercised for the most effective and beneficial use of the ferroalloys have also been discussed.
