Abstract

The standard electrode potentials of alpha and gamma manganese have been determined and the values are compared with the values obtained from thermal data. It is shown that in the same group in the periodic table the standard potential values become more positive while the Gibb's free energy values become more negative' The cathode pote-ntial values during deposition of alpha and gamma mang-anese have been measured and related to the standard pot-entials. Cathode potential for the same current density increases in the order : gamma, alpha manganese containing sulphur and alpha manganese containing selenium which is found in conformity with the order of standard, potential values found in this investigation.
