Abstract
As part of a 2m. ton expansion project, the Tata Iron and Steel Company set up an ore-crushing and sintering plant to provide a sized ore plus sinter feed to the blast-furnaces. The sinter plant started operation in late 1959, and the experience gained as a result of plant operation as well as comprehensive laboratory tests is discussed in this paper as it focuses attention on some of the diffi-culties encountered in sintering hematite ore fines.
