Abstract
Treatment of steel in the ladle as measure of supple-menting melting shop metallurgy has had a long tradition. With the need for economical production ov higher-strength steel, and with the requirement to rationalize and ensure a safe operation, an accelerated structural change began in the steel industry approximately 20 years ago, as a result of which ladle metallurgy emerged as an independent process step.
