Abstract

Bokaro Steel Plant has two steel melting shop. Shop-I which is operating at present has 5 converters of 100 tons capacity and is rated to produce 2.5 M/T to be subse-quently increased to 3 M/T annually by improving working parameters. The converters are lined with tar bonded dolo-mite bricks, produced within the plant. The working volume inside the lining (as per project report) is 91 M3 i.e. specific volume will be 0.9 m3/ton. However, the actual working volume is less because of padding of lining. Steel Melting shop-II, which is under construction, will have two converters of 300 tons capacity. Here also lining will be done with tar bonded dolomite bricks and working volume inside the lining will be 261 m3 i.e. specific volume will be 0.87 m3/ton. The shop is projected to produce annually 1.5 M/t initially, which is to be raised to 2.5 M/T subsequently.
