Abstract

The basic reqirements of foundry sands are availablilty at low cost and ability to take the shape of the pattern easily by ramming, jolting, slinging, etc. They should also retain the shape of the pattern when the latter is withdrawn. In most of the cases, moulding sands meet these requirements, but in certain cases, aiding by rods, springs, nails grids etc. may be necessary.
