Abstract

Ceramics have been associated with the automobile industries since the earlier days, a prime example for which is the spark plug insulators. But the percentage of ceramic parts in automobiles has so far been insigni-ficant. However, in the present day stringent demands are being imposed on the automobiles, such as fuel economy, clean emission, recyclability, safety, attractive design, good price, driving pleasure, ease and comfort etc. This has become an extremely difficult task for the automobile engineer. The automobile engineers, however, are actively working to find solutions day after. In the process they are interacting with the other branches
