Abstract
Selection of the kind of refractory materials for ceramic shell mould goes a long way in achieving quality inves-tment cast products. The present study attempts to bring out the indigenous availability of shell mould materials and discusses at length the properties of some selected materials with a view to guiding the users in the selec-tion of appropriate mould materials. Thermal expansion of shell mould materials singly decides its quality and can predict the performance of the moulds made out of the materials in the shop floor. Much stress has, therefore, been given to the study of the shell mould materials with regard to thermal expansion.
