Abstract

Calcium-silicide is a powerful deoxidiser, desulphuriser and inoculent. It was proposed to conduct smelting trials for producing calcium silicide with 25-30% calcium content in 300 KVA sub-merged arc furnace, utilizing indigenous raw materials by quick lime method. The production data of pilot scale smelting trials have been discussed along with technological considerations.
