Abstract
THE demand for heat and creep resisting steels and other special alloys has immensely increased in recent years with the rapid development of the basic heavy engineering industries in the country manufacturing sophisticated high temperature machinery such as high pressure boilers, press-ure vessels, steam turbines for power plants and gas turbines for aero-engines. At present all these high temperature alloys which are to conform to rigid standards are being imported, resulting in considerable drainage of scarce foreign exchange; In order to indigenously produce these alloys, acceptable to the designers, it is essential to determine the high temperature properties viz. the long time creep and stress-rupture data and elevated temp-erature proof-stress or hot-yield values, which form the basis parameters in the design criteria of high tempera-ture equipments.
