Abstract
After the completion of the Third Five Year Plan, India today stands committed to year another Five year Plan in order to fully develop & industrialise by exploiting its vast potential of natural and manpower resource. The fast developing industrialisation of the country has naturally involved the increasing usage of common metals including iron, steel, copper, aluminium and their alloys in quant-ities ranging from thousands to million tonnes in the form of heavy machinery, huge factories, transport vehicles, railways and their accessories, various structures, engin-eering and electrical equipment and myriads of consumer articles fabricated from the common metals and their alloys.
