Abstract

A new core making process has been developed in France. It combines the advantages of the cold setting binders in using ordinary core boxes together with the rapidity of the hot box processes. The new core sand mix can be used on the bench or in conventional core blowers. The new binder is hardened in the core box to provide very accu-rate cores and to eliminate the need for dryers by gassing the core with CO2. This is not the conventional CO2 proc-ess, as the binder is entirely organic. The process, due to its complexity and sensitivity, requires precise control, and the practical limits in application have not yet been established.
