Abstract

A new technique to recover high purity metals from mixed mattes of different metals - Experimental work by Sherrit Gordon has led to the development of techniques for pressure leaching and recovery of high purity metals from mixed mattes of nickel, copper, cobalt and iron. The combination of hydro-metallurgy and pyrometallurgy in the refining of metals from ores has been in use for many years, but the development work by Sherritt Gordon Mines Ltd. has extended the use of pressure leaching to enriched products produced by pyrometallurgy notably mattes, and including other products as well.
