Abstract
TO FOCUS attention on the latest technological and research developments in the metallurgy of iron and steel and to discuss their rational utilisation, a Symposium on "Iron and Steel Industry in India" was organised by the National Metallurgical Laboratory from 4th to 7th February, 1959, at Jamshedpur. Inaugu-rated by Prof. M. S. Thacker, Director-General, Scien-tific and Industrial Research and presided over by Sir J. J. Ghandy, Kt., C.I.E., Director-in-Charge, Tata Industries Ltd. and Chairman, Executive Council of the National Metallurgical Laboratory, the Sympos- ium drew a large gathering of top ranking scientists and technologists in different branches of Iron and Steel from all over the world.
