Abstract
ONE of the main activities of the National Metallurgical Laboratory is technical aid to small and medium scale industries. Few will realise the importance the laboratory has attached to such technical aid to metallurgical indu-stries. During the last few years the laboratory has cond-ucted a large number of experimental and ad hoc invest-igations on behalf of the industries which relate to the causes and remedial measures of the failure of t he equi-pment, methods of improving the quality of the products, utilisation of indigenous raw materials, manufacturing processes of various articles, etc. Such investigations have not only helped the industries to solve their diff-iculties but have also resulted in efficient production. Technical aid was rendered to small and big industries— working on cottage scale or medium scale. The total num- ber of enquiries covering such- technical aid covered over 720 cases from the inception of the laboratory. A few llus-trations of such work done in the National Metallurgical Laboratory.
