Abstract

The cleanliness of steel is determined by the entrapment rate of liquid slag at the meniscus during continuous casting. The entrapment rate is minimal when the miniscus level is stable. Common methods to study the meniscus lev-el stability have limitations in either measurement rate, capability to distinguish between slag and liquid steel, lateral resolution and freedom of measurement location.
