Abstract
A numerical formalism which includes non orthogonal transformation, a control volume based discretisation scheme and a searching technique for determination of the location of solid-liquid interface is developed for solving the thermal field during solidification process by continuous casting operation. In this study, all terms arising from the nonorthogonality of the grid have been retained in the solution procedure. The formulation is applied to the continuous casting process of AI-Mg alloy cylindrical ingot, which includes axial heat conduction. The theoretical prediction of the interface is in good agreement with the experimentally measured interface.
