Abstract

Chitosan has been extracted from biomass of Aspergillus niger cultured in potato dextrose broth (PDB) and the dead and decayed crab shells obtained from the sea coast of puri, Orissa. For a better understanding of its various properties extracted chitosan was then characterized by various methods like HPLC, XRD, SEM, thermal analysis, FTIR, acid-base titration etc. After the characterization the extracted chitosan was used for the biosorption of chromium (III).
