Abstract

Experiments were conducted with silicon-spring steel of specific composition to find out effective treatment, which would give, maximum of hardness without affecting the ductility of the material adversely. Various hardening and tempering temperatures were used and it was found that best results were obtained by hardening at 900°C/oil and subsequent tempering between 400°C and 500°C. Foe smaller size, austempering proved to be the best treatment giving effective strength together with good toughness and elasticity. (Dr. S.K. Tiwary, Scientist and Shri P.K.
