The National Metallurgical Laboratory has activity been engaged for the last few years in a series of investigations on Indian iron ores from various mines and ore deposits which supply the ore to integrated Steel Plants in the country. In the present work, pilot plant beneficiation tests were under taken on laminated iron ore sample from one of the four deposits of iron ores from Dalli mines, prospected by the Bhilai Steel Plant; the results of these comprehensive investigations obtained are presented in this Report. It has been well established; that washing the ore could successfully overcomes the problem of handling and screening sticky and wet ores, under Indian monsoon conditions, thereby yielded enriched sized ore as well as upgrade fines for production of self-fluxing and super-basic fluxed sinters suitable for iron smelting. By employing optimum jigging of the washed ore fines, silica and alumina contents thereof could be further appreciably lowered. Sintering studies of the beneficiation ore fines have established that good quality sinters having basicity ratios (CaO+ MgO/SiO2+Al2O3) upto 2.4, could readily be produced with attendant improved economic iron productivity with lowered fuel and flux rates.
