Reducibility characteristics of lumpy Kiriburu iron ores, as well as sinters prepared from them, were studied with hydrogen as the reducing agent at 800°C and a flow rate of 3.5 liters per minute. The present Report deals with two different samples. Section A and C deals with the reducibility of lump iron ores and sinters respectively, obtained from the mixed iron ores and sinters respectively, obtained from the mixed iron ore sample of (i) the upper portion of Main Haulage Road, (ii) Bench 3 of Hill No. 1 Section B and D deals with the reducibility of lumpy iron ores and sinters obtained from the mixed sample of (i) Hill No.1 , Bench No. 2 and (ii) Hill No. 2, Bench No.2 of Kiriburu iron ore mines. Due to variations in the physical character of the ore such as laminations, porosity, mineralogical constituents etc. the reducibility characteristics varied from one ore to the other. Lumpy iron ores weighing 500 gms each and of sizes -40 + 25mm, -70 -50mm, -100 +70 mm took 145, 155-250 and 270 minutes respectively for 90% reduction. It was observed that the reducibility of Kiriburu iron ores is superior to Bolani iron ores of Durgapur Steel Plant of Hindustan Steel Limited. Sinters weighing 150 gms each and of -6.680 + 4.699 mm size were reduced at 800° C with hydrogen flowing at 3.5 litres per minute. It was observed that the reducibility than the sinters prepared with with limestone in the case of self-fluxing sinters prepared by mixed firing technique.
