Abstract
We would like to present a recent project executed by DMT GmbH & Co. KG (DMT) – Technology Provider and McNally Bharat Engineering Company Ltd. (MBE) – Main Bidder. This paper will not only include basic data of the implemented By-Product Plant but also the challenges for foreign companies in India. DMT designed all process units of the Coke Oven Gas (COG) By-Product Plant (BPP) and supplied key equipment. MBE was the main contractor and performed detail engineering, local procurement, manufacturing and erection of the By-Product Plant at SAIL IISCO Steel Plant at Burnpur (SAIL-ISP). The commissioning of the plant was performed by SAIL-ISP, MBE and DMT. Following the process units of the BPP: • Tar separation • Gravel filter • Primary gas cooler • Electrostatic Tar Precipitator (ETP)• Gas exhauster • H2S, NH3 and Naphthalene scrubber • Naphthalene recovery • Distillation plant • Ammonium sulphate saturator • Claus plant. The selected process was agreed between MBE/DMT and the client. The Claus process was accepted and has been installed because it is a emission free process and the purity of sulphur is higher than 99,5%. The Claus plant is installed with a Catalytic Ammonia Cracking Reactor to split the Ammonia into Nitrogen and Hydrogen. Due to the reason that the production of ammonium sulphate was requested by the client, an ammonium sulphate plant has been installed additionally. Nevertheless, the plant design and performance meets the high environmental standards specified by the client.
