The main objectives in the proposed project are the development of Zr-based alloy system and biomimetic, bioactive coatings. The objectives of the project may be summarized as follows: 1. Development of alloys of Zr-based system, 2. Biomimetic / sol-gel coating and sputter deposition of HA/Si-HA on Zr based substrate, 3. Mechanical properties will be evaluated of alloys and coating, 4. Cell adhesion /differentiation, biological tests to evaluate biocompatibility, 5. Comparison of coating with commercially available Ti-6Al-4V and stainless-steel (SS-316).
