Abstract
The paper is an attempt to establish kusum oil as a core and mould binder for foundry applications. Different percentage of kusum oil, with or without additives are mixed with sand and baked at different time and temperature, to evaluate the tensile strength. The results were compared with the tensile strength of sand-mixes with linseed oil. Kusum oil yielded better baked tensile strength and shows better baking cycles. The gas evolution characteristics of the sand- mixes containing kusum oil was also studied.
