Some Current Researches into Fundamental Aspects of Ingot Structure

Abstract

Although the development of surface and internal stru-ctures in solidifying ingots has been the subject of study for many years, there are still a number of unresolved problems. In recent years as the demand for high quality ingots has increased there has been increased emphasis on fundamental studies. In many instances existing infor-mation has formed a basis for the subsequent elcusidation of a problem. This paper discribes results from three related studies in which structure development has been investigated with a view to improving product quality.
