Technical Committee of raw materials preparation and improved iron production submits report -- The Technical Committee set up by the Government of India sometimes back under the Chairmanship of Dr B. R. Nijhawn, Director, Hindustan Steel Limited and National Metallurgical Labo-ratory, to advise the Government on various steps towards raw-materials' preparation and technological improvements for improved iron production, has submitted its full Report to the Ministry of Steel. The Report is comprehensive and has discussed different parameters covering induStrial production of pig iron under Indian conditions, relating for example, to indigenous raw-materials for iron smelting vis-a-vis current technological practices and the intro-duction of latest innovations and techniques, such as the use of super-basic self-fluxing sinter, pelletizing, injection of oil, light naphtha, high top pressure oper-ations, optimum sizing of raw-materials for iron prod-uction and their economic beneficiation, high blast temp-eratures, oxygen enrichment of air blast, etc. The Report has highlighted the latest technological innovations employed in iron production in relation to the results obtained in overseas practices such as in the USSR, Japan, etc.
