Abstract
Refining of OH steel in the ladle with synthetic slag -- Trials have been undertaken in the USSR with synthetic slag refining of OH steel in the ladle. The synthetic slag used was of the composition-40-41% A1203; 54-56% CaO ; 1.5-2% SiO3; 1-3% MgO and 0.2-0'5% FeO. The sulphur content of such treated steel was then only 0'006-0012%. The quality of refined low-alloy structural steels, tool steels, low carbon and carbon steels after refining with synthetic slag was better than the quality of the same types of steel manufactured in electric arc furnaces.
