Purofer, Industrial Application of Direct Reduction

Pantke, ING. H.D (1973) Purofer, Industrial Application of Direct Reduction. In: Symposium on Science and Technology of Sponge Iron and Its Conversion to Steel, Feb. 19-21, 1973, CSIR - National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur.

The basis for steel production is the reduction or iron ores; some 80% of the iron in finished steel derives from this source. Seperation of oxygen from the iron requires a very high specific energy consumption amounting to more than half of the energy consumed by metallurgical plants.
