Abstract
Long term stability and oxidation resistance of supper alloys which are used in combustion chambers and gas turbines can be ameliorated by application of a protective coating. In his study, two intermetallic compounds were deposited on Inconel 738. Substrate, through the pack cementation method. Al-Ni and Al-Ti intermetallic compounds were formed in a in aluminum and in aluminum- titanium base-pack mixture respectively. Results demonstrated that when the pack cementation of substrates is based on an ammonium chlorine-activated pack with aluminum powder the coating includes AlNi intermetallic compounds phase, but when the pack cementation is based on aluminumtitanium powders the coating includes TiAl3 intermetallic compounds phase.
