Abstract
Most of the Ceslrum species available in India are cultivated for their fragrant flowers. A pharmacological investigation ofthe saponin and saponin-containing fhlctionof C noelurnum has been carried out. The alkaloid isolated from the dried and milled leaves of Ceslrum noclurnum (Solanaceae) has been idcntified as 1-carbamoylpyrrolid in-2-one (I) on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic studies.
