Abstract
The Thermal expansion of some Fe-Cr-Mn-N alloys developed at the National Metallurgical Laboratory has been investigated. The mean coefficients of linear expansion have been found to be of the same order as the 300 series of Cr-Ni stainless steels. However, when the manganese content is very low, the coefficient of linear expansion has also been found to be low. Increase in chromium content causes a fall in the coefficient of expansion.
