Abstract
Possibility for preparation of cobalt metal powder from chloride solution through oxalate route was investigated. Cobalt oxalate precipitation from chloride solution using sodium oxalate was studied in details. The cobalt oxalate intermediate produced from chloride solution was subjected to hydrogen reduction to produce cobalt metal powder. Process parameters like reduction temperature, kinetics of reduction and hydrogen flow rate were optimised and discussed in this paper. Cobalt powder produced through route was of comparable purity (99.55%)
