Abstract

A substantial quantity of copper wire scrap is produced annually. The present investigation aims at producing a value added such as electrolyte copper powder from wire scrap containing high amount of copper, stacked in stain-less steel (S.S) basket as the anode. The S.S. basket is used only as the anode contact to feed external current to the stacked wire scrap. The stainless steel rod (cylin-drical) was used as cathode. The various electrolysis parameters such as the cathode current density, brush-down time interval, sulphuric acid concentration, copper concen-tration in the sulphate bath and anode current, were optimised with a view to producing the powder metallurgi-cal (P/M) grade copper powder (CUE-80) from such wastes.
