Abstract

Practical difficulties for attaining a sound brass ingot have been outlined. The influences of casting temperature on entrapping of gases and dross,surface conditions of the ingot, crystallization,primary pipe and presence of dissolved gases have been outlined. The effects of rate of pouring and different mould dressings on the quality of the
ingot are given. The importance of factors like the rate of cooling and the prevention of wide pasty zone has been stressed.
