Abstract

In order to develop predictive models for a deformation process, it is necessary to characterize the work piece behavior under processing conditions. This requires measurements of flow stress as a function of strain, strain rate, and temperature for the regime of these variable characteristics of the process. Flow stress equations based on these data, can then be input to modeling procedures. The objective of the present work is to define a model parameter called load drop parameter from the stressstrain curves of polycrystalline nickel and to study the mechanical behavior during hot working of metals based on past work on polycrystalline nickel by Srinivasan and Prasad 111and to present a new method of modeling material behavior, which accounts for the dynamic metallurgical processes occurring during hot deformation.
