Abstract

Three 2 cwt samples of sands, one a yellow natural moulding sand, another a core sand and the third a river were received from M/s Batala Engineering Co. Ltd., Batala (Punjab) with a view to determine their characteristics for use in moulding and core mixtures. The sample of natural moulding sand contained plenty of gritty materials. It was therefore, crushed after drying. The crushed sand was then shifted through a 6 mesh sieve. The portion of a sand passing through the sieve was taken up for investigation purpose. Whatever portion of the sand sample did not pass through the 6 mesh sieve was discarded. Investigations on the core and river sands were taken up with the sand samples as received.
