Abstract

The vanadium bearing titaniferrous ores of Bihar and Orissa contain 0.8 to 1.8% vanadium with 10 to 20% titanium dioxide. The paper records the results of studies carried out for the recovery of vanadium pentoxide by salt roasting, leaching and precipitation by the adjustment of pH. The factors studies for roasting include the effect of (a) particle size, (b) temperature, (c) different sodium salts, and (d) kinetics of roasting. The roasted product is ground and leached with hot water and vanadium pentoxide precipitated by adjusting the pH to on the recovery of vanadium pentoxide have been recorded. An overall recovery of 60% has been obtained.
