Abstract

Properties of a few clays from South India have been studied. Experimental procedures adopted are the same as those described in the earlier studies already reported. These clays are highly refractory, coarse to medium grained, and develop poor dry strengths. They show on firing a high porosity and low strength. These studies indicate that among the clays from Mysore, Allalasandra clay may be suitable for the manufacture of semi-silica refractories and the Banasandra clay for high heat duty refractories; the Chitaldrug clay can be usefully employed for the manufacture of high heat duty refractory clay or clays. Similarly the Madras clay also is promising for application for the high heat duty refractories.
