Abstract

Asbestos which belongs to the serpentine and amphibole group of mineral is known as “ rock cotton” of the mineral kingdom consisting as it does of delicate, flexible fibres so soft and silky that these can be spun readily into thread and woven into cloth. It also resists fire and acid and is a good non-conductor of heat and electricity. Five samples of asbestos from Singhbhum District were received through geological Survey of India for studying their suitability for industrial uses
