Abstract

Two synthetic facing sands and one backing sand were received from M/s Southern Railway, Golden Rock, Madras to find out their suitability in the preparation of moulds. The synthetic sands were designated as green sand facing and dry sand facing. The green sand facing was black in colour, and the dry sand facing brown and the backing sand black. The two facing sands were in the disintegrated from and no lumps or gritty materials were present. The backing sand, however, contained lumps and they were crushed after drying in the as received state.
