Abstract

The results of preliminary studies on the possibility of upgrading Garnet, Quartz and Corundum samples for abrasive purposes by magnetic separation are presented. Garnet and Quartz samples responded favourably. A garnet concentrate of 96% purity could be produced with about 88% recovery. Almost a pure quartz concentrate was produced at medium intensity with more than 99 percent recovery by weight. The Corundum sample contained only about 10% Corundum. It did not respond satisfactorily to magnetic separation tests because of intimate interlocking. A product containing about 21% Corundum could be produced with a recovery of nearly 63 percent at that size.
