Abstract

The paper outlines the effect of pH on corrosion inhibition of mild steel by chromates using radioactive tracer technique. It shows that Cr-uptake is more in the acidic region, less in the neutral zone and the least in the alkaline region. Therefore, raising the pH of inhibitor solution leads to reduced chromate consumption. It was found that chromate continues to passivate mild steel in pH range (3.4-10.0) for at least up to 7 h.
