Abstract
This sand sample was sent by M/s Mukand Iron and Steel Co. Ltd., Bombay for investigating its suitability as a moulding material for steel castings. The sand deposits lie in Vengurla, Malvan and Kundal taluks of Ratnagiri district in Bombay. The thickly consolidated massive rocks belonging to coastal territory deposits are quarried by open cast method and are ground by manual labour to requisite grain size.
