Abstract

65 grams of a sand sample were received from the associated Cement Companies Limited, Bombay for a preliminary investigation to see whether it can be beneficiated to make it suitable for production of Portland cement. According to them, the sand contained 70% SiO2 and varying amounts of alumina, Fe2O3, CaO, MgO and alkalies and if 30% by weight of silica could be separated from the sand available locally, the remaining product will have a composition very similar to that of clay which is one of the raw materials for the Cement Industry and which is one of their Cement works.
