Abstract

Fabric friction lines ore fitted to the bogie and hind truck sliders of some types of locomotives by damping out sinusoidal oscillations at high speeds. This method is stated to be satisfactory if the co-efficient of friction of the fabric liners mating with the metal liners is maintained constant at 0.15 in regular service. Higher co-efficient of friction tends to reduce the effectiveness of bogie control spring on curves and cause high flange forces on the foot plate in occasional lurching.
