Abstract

A Sample of low grades Kyanite from Badia, Bihar, received from M/s. Natural Science, India (Private) Ltd., Calcutta, assayed 45.34% Al2O3, 49.37% SiO2, 0.53% Fe2O3, 0.47% TiO2, 1.00% CaO, 0.38% MgO, 1.68% Na2O+K2O and traces of sulphur. Quartz and mica were the principal gangue minerals. Jigging and tabling of the sample did not produce a satisfactory grade of concentrate. Flotation employing sodium sulphonate and lactic acid yielded a concentrate assaying 60.23% Al2O3 with a recovery of 78.5%.
