Abstract

5lbs. of Chandipur sand were received from M/s. Tata Locomotive & Engineering Co. Ltd., for hydro-classification in the first instance and determination of its sieve analysis, P.C.E. and silica and alkali contents subsequently with a view to assess its suitability for moulding purposes. The sand sample as received contained about 15% heavy minerals of which magnetite and ilmenite constituted 10% and were present mostly in the finer fractions. The balance of 5% was chiefly made up of rutile, epidote, zircon, hornblende etc. Weathered feldspar was also present in the sample in appreciable amounts.
