Abstract

This part of the paper records results obtained when experiments were carried out using an iron inter-layer deposited from ferric chloride solution at temperatures lower than 90° C for aluminium panel was heat-treated at 250° C immediately after nickel-plating, some blisters were invariably formed. However, if the specimens after nickel-plating were allowed to age for 24 hours and then heat-treated at 250°C no blisters resulted; adhesion of the nickel deposit was also very good. When ferric chloride was used at 70°C or above, ageing was not required to avoid blisters. Blistering was traced to absorbed hydrogen.
